The Pulse of Catholic Medicine

Christian Dávila:
Overcoming and Succeeding

Fall/Winter 2019

This issue of The Pulse of Catholic Medicine featured Latino members of the Catholic Medical Association. I enjoyed interviewing and sharing the story of Christian Dávila, a third-year medical student at University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio, Texas. Christian shared with me his story of rejection from medical school multiple times and how he was unwavering in the pursuit of what he considers both his career and vocation.

Dr. Antonio Anzueto:
Leading Lung Expert Paving the Way in the Treatment of ARDS

Fall/Winter 2018

For my fourth article for The Pulse of Catholic Medicine, I interviewed Dr. Antonio Anzueto, a leading global lung expert and innovator in the study of Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS), a very severe, difficult-to treat pulmonary disease. Dr. Anzueto shares how his faith helps him face each day in his practice as a physician and how his clinical research has provided a better understanding and treatment of ARDS.

Modern Mobile Medicine:
At the Forefront of the Direct Primary Care Model

Summer 2018

Imagine a model of medicine that is affordable without health insurance and offers care so personalized that you can text your doctor. This model, called The Direct Primary Care Model, is the focus of my third article for The Pulse of Catholic Medicine. Two physicians explain how their Direct Primacy Care practice, Modern Mobile Medicine, provides them the freedom to practice medicine without the bureaucracy of current health care systems.

Haiti Draws CMA Members to Medical Mission

Fall/Winter 2017

In the second article that I wrote for The Pulse of Catholic Medicine, I highlight what draws two CMA members to continually return to the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere for medical mission — and the seeming paradox that the impoverished persons that they serve possess an unparalleled richness of faith.

The Miraculous Healing of a CMA Nurse:
The Story of Linda Petote Martin
Spring/Summer 2017

The first article that I wrote for The Pulse of Catholic Medicine is about a woman who nearly died from a rare, incurable heart and lung disease — until she received an answer to her heartfelt, steadfast prayer.

I was surprised and excited to learn that my article was quoted on national live television in September 2017! A priest read my article and quoted it in his homily during televised Mass on EWTN. He mentions the article during minutes 8–13 and it can be viewed here.
